Role Introduction

The Senior Azure Cloud Engineer role provides delivery of Azure solutions and early life support of Microsoft Azure cloud environments for an existing Advanced Managed Services customer. This exciting role requires an innovative individual taking current knowledge and previous experience to deploy new solutions together with improving existing environments.

 

There will be a strong focus on DevOps, including,

  • Developing version-controlled Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform
  • Building, supporting, and running YAML deployment pipelines
  • Conducting pull requests and contributing to peer reviews of engineer’s code

 

Communication and collaboration are paramount in this role, you will work closely with a variety of internal and external business stakeholders and will be continually engaged and collaborating.

 

This role can be home based on in one of our UK Offices.

What You Will Do

Collaborate on creation and improvement of Infrastructure-as-Code deployments:

  • Input into and deployment of designed services across the Azure stack
  • Identify and implement innovation opportunities within existing infrastructure
  • Automate deployments
  • Contribute towards improving automation and scripting of tasks

Provide early life support of newly deployed Azure services and connectivity issues.  This requires:

  • Completion of system and service take-on documentation in readiness of support handover
  • Root cause investigation, reporting to senior management with a prevention plan
  • Resolution of incidents in line with contractual timescales

Participate in continual improvement processes, modelled around meeting ISO standards:

  • Change control, with peer change review.
  • Quality driven; work planned with minimal disruption to users.
  • Incident investigation.

 

Assist with ad-hoc tasks as required to support wider business plans and initiatives.

  • Capability to author and update design, support and procedural documentation as well as provide input into project design and concepts
  • Keen willingness to mentor and support others in the team
  • The ability to multi-task, keep accurate logs and provide reports on progress
  • Capability to project manage in an informal capacity; able to apply appropriate project methodology to plan, execute and report on work in a structured way

Essential skills to be considered for the role:

  • Significant experience with deploying and managing Azure networking environments
  • Ability to configure and fine tune cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with deployment of production-grade system connectivity and routing
  • Experience integrating Azure services with on-premises solutions using services such as Private Link/Endpoints and Private DNS
  • Experience with hybrid networking connectivity services, such as ExpressRoute and site-to-site VPNs
  • Experience with configuring and monitoring Azure Firewalls, NSGs, and ASGs
  • Experience with cloud monitoring and reporting systems such as Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights
  • Developing version-controlled Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform
  • Building, supporting, and running YAML deployment pipelines
  • Highly confident in Cloud Networking Architecture

Experience of the following technologies is highly desirable:

  • Strong awareness of Information Security and the ITIL framework
  • Familiarity with GitHub or Azure DevOps
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Hands-on experience with PowerShell and Azure CLI
  • Workload migrations from on-premises to Azure
  • Experience of using Configuration Management tools
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching others

Relevant Qualifications

  • Exam AZ-104: Microsoft Azure Administrator
  • Exam AZ-400: Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions
  • Exam AZ-700: Azure Network Engineer
