Lead the Indirect Tax function to effectively and efficiently deliver, in conjunction with our outsourced providers, all
aspects of global indirect tax compliance and related advisory matters. The key objectives of the role are to:
i) Ensure Advanced Group meets all of its indirect tax obligations in all jurisdictions of operation.
ii) Implement and maintain an indirect tax control and governance framework that reduces risk inherent
in key VAT/GST/sales tax processes and ensures technical accuracy of all returns.
iii) Partner with the Tax Director and other key stakeholders (Group FC, Head of Legal, Head of HR,
Business Leads) to ensure indirect tax is considered in all Business Transformation/Reorg initiatives.
You will be part of a small team of 4, reporting into the Tax Director.
• Prepare and submit all UK VAT returns for all UK Advanced Group entities.
• Monitor and oversight of compliance with non-UK indirect (inc Intrastat/EC Sales List) tax filing obligations.
Preparation and submission typically done externally.
• Work with internal finance colleagues to establish and implement a VAT Control Framework, ensuring
compliance with UK SAO regime.
• Lead indirect tax remediation efforts (prior year missing filings) in Ireland, US and Canada. Work w/Director
to identify and resolve other legacy, existing and potential VAT issues.
• Act as Indirect Tax Lead for implementation of new ERP system, ensuring system conformity for VAT codes,
UK MTD compliance, and the generation of appropriate AP/AR reports as required. This will also involve
providing training to sales and AP.
• Develop set of tax process notes and policies relevant to all indirect tax matters. Roll-out to impacted
stakeholders.
• Identify areas of VAT leakage, risk and opportunities and pursue solutions w/Director.
• Mentor and coach local Finance teams on VAT matters.
• Evaluate and propose VAT automation solutions.
• Significant prior experience in leading indirect tax in a mid-sized group (60 companies UK and Ireland) with
multiple ERP systems.
• ERP hands on expertise to be able to self-investigate potential issues on the processing of sales and
purchase invoices.
• Ability to plan and implement changes within an organisation.
• Staff management and coaching skills.
• Experience of US sales tax and Canadian indirect taxes.
• Excellent communicator, able to prepare communications for senior management and translate tax risks to
non-tax specialists.
• Excellent technical skills and track record of addressing complexity/ambiguity and managing competing
priorities.
• Commercially aware, with ability to strike balance between “ideal” and “workable” in finding pragmatic
solutions to multi-stakeholder issues.
• Good ability to build productive relationships with Senior Finance and business leaders.
• Understanding of all Microsoft Office applications.
