Our IT Managed Services business enables customers to innovate, transform, and seize new opportunities. The Technical Operations function underpins this mission by delivering enterprise-grade, 24x7x365 technical support to mid-market clients across both public and private sectors.

We operate a shared services model aligned with ITIL v4, underpinned by ServiceNow, automation, and generative AI. Our 24x7 Operations squads support the health, stability and scalability of our customers’ network infrastructure, routing, switching and firewall environments.

You will provide third-line expertise in routing, switching, firewall, and wireless technologies. Working as part of a shift-based squad, you will resolve complex network incidents, lead change activities, and play a key role in maintaining network availability for customer environments.

This role demands strong technical judgement, clear documentation, and confidence in engaging with internal stakeholders and suppliers. You will also be expected to contribute to operational improvements and support Analysts or Engineers who escalate to you during your shift.

What You Will Do

  • Lead complex troubleshooting for LAN, WAN, VPN, firewall, and wireless issues, working to defined SLAs.
  • Support configuration and maintenance of Cisco and other enterprise-grade network devices.
  • Deliver standard and emergency network changes as part of scheduled or incident response activities.
  • Conduct firewall rule reviews, NAT policy adjustments, and IDS/IPS tuning as part of proactive or reactive work.
  • Respond to security-related alerts and requests from the SOC, including suspicious traffic and firewall policy investigations.
  • Monitor network performance and health, using tools such as LogicMonitor and PRTG, and respond to alerts.
  • Update ServiceNow records with clear, technically accurate data for all incidents, problems, and changes.
  • Maintain and improve network documentation, working with the CMDB team to ensure configuration accuracy.
  • Support mentoring of junior colleagues by sharing experience and guiding troubleshooting approaches.
  • Contribute to continual service improvement initiatives related to monitoring, tooling, or standardisation.

What You Will Have

  • Deep hands-on experience with routing and switching technologies, ideally recent CCNP or equivalent level.
  • Strong practical knowledge of firewalls, including Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with wireless technologies and secure access control (e.g. Cisco ISE).
  • Experience using monitoring platforms (e.g. LogicMonitor, PRTG) and interpreting performance data.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles including segmentation, encryption, and access control.
  • Clear understanding of ITIL processes including Incident, Problem, and Change.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Confidence in change implementation, with strong awareness of network stability and rollback planning.
  • Eligibility for UK Government Security Check (SC) clearance.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Exposure to SD-WAN solutions or cloud-network integration.
  • Experience with content switching or load balancing (e.g. F5, Kemp, Citrix NetScaler).
  • Familiarity with network scripting/automation (e.g. Python, Ansible).
  • Understanding of ISO27001 controls and how they apply to networks.
  • Experience supporting security incident response or integrating with SIEM platforms.
